Blue Moons are rare (once every 2.5 years). Blue Moons on New Year’s Eve are rarer still (once every 19 years). How rare is a lunar eclipse of a Blue Moon on New Year’s Eve?

A search of NASA’s Five Millennium Catalogue of Lunar Eclipses provides an approximate answer. In the next 1000 years, Blue Moons on New Year’s Eve will be eclipsed only 11 times (once every 91 years). A year of special note is 2848 when there will be two lunar eclipses in December–on Dec. 1st and Dec. 31st. Such a double-Blue Moon-lunar eclipse ending on New Year’s Eve appears to be a millennium-level event. That’s rare.

Go outside and enjoy the moonlight!

As the New Year draws near, I pause to appreciate the depth of connection that I share with my many circles of friends, teachers, students, family, and fellow dancers from around the world who are part of our Nia community.

I celebrate the many ways we touch each others lives and affirm the deeper dimensions of the life, love, and wisdom that we share.

We are all connected in the dance of life. Every act we take has an impact on another in profound ways we cannot begin to fully comprehend. Today, I commit to random acts of kindness and beauty, because that is the kind of world I want to live in.

It is a blessed day! It is the last day of a most wonderful year.

Thank you 2009 for being so good to me! Thank you to every single day, even these ones that seemed hard, dark, or ordinary. Every day before is a stepping stone to now.

Right in this moment, I accept peace, love, abundance, joy, and all things good and pure. I love my life, my family, my friends, my body, mind, soul, and spirit.

And, FOREVER DANCE!!

Dancing at Nia-Underground this morning felt like stepping into a hot bath. Ahhhhhh.

Our dance floor is home to my heart. I love my life!

Thanks to the 25 souls that showed up to dance this morning. It was so much fun. XOXOXO

Maybe another spontaneous class soon? I’ll keep you posted!

I wasn’t going to teach in the morning, but when I got in the shower today, I listened to my body.

She said, “Please, please…can we dance in the morning?!”

How could I say no?!

Since I’ll be flying in late (and will be working on the routine on the plane), I decided to go with a later (and longer) class. I’ll do more warm up, for sure, since I am real stiff.

So, would you please join me? 10 – 11:15 am at Nia-Underground.

Drop-in only! $10 at the door.

I can’t wait to put my bare feet on our dance floor!

Times Square all decked out! My Mom, Sis, and I took our 4th Annual Christmas trip to NYC to see a Broadway Play. I thought it was going to be Wicked, but since it is my Mom’s surprise to us, we never really know until we get there!

We saw The Jersey Boys!! It was so much FUN! I had no idea how many hits the Four Seasons had. It was especially fun for my Mom, because their story spans her life.

Here we are giggling on the train. So cute!

I’m off to New York to enjoy my 37th Christmas on my family’s Italian Compound. Good thing I brought my stretchy pants!

Rachel (God bless her) brought me to the airport this morning for my 8am flight. I arrived at the American Airlines Gate at 7am. It was all dressed up!

Our beloved community member, Pamela Silimperi won the GRAND PRIZE – a full year of FREE Nia!

We exceeded our goals and we are filled with love and gratitude – for an amazing event, and an AWESOME year.

Thank you to everyone who helped and contributed. We love you!!!

The Shortest Day
by Susan Cooper

And so the Shortest Day came and the year died
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.
They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive.
And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, reveling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us – listen!
All the long echoes, sing the same delight,
This Shortest Day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And now so do we, here, now,
This year and every year.

Welcome Yule!
