Molls

Pictured here is Mollia Jensen, the inspiration behind the smash hit, RockNia. She will be Guest Teacher this Sunday, for our “Nia Church” at 1pm, as I’ll be trick-or-treating with my nephews in NY.

On this Day of the Dead – 2009, Molls will take her first heal-lead step into a long, rich, fulfilling, creatively and financially satisfying career as a Nia instructor. This will be her first full-length class.

Come by and dance, sing, celebrate, remember. Because I know Mollia, I know her first class will be soulful, reverent, and off-the-hook hot!

Zombie

Picture here is ZOMBIE Valerie Sensabaugh, Nia-Underground Community Member.

She participated in Thrill the World Seattle 2009.

They were trying to make the World Record for the most dancers dancing together. People all over the world danced Michael Jackson’s Thriller at the same time.

So cool. Check it out! That’s some serious dance love! Zombie-style! The little girls are so adorable. And, how GREAT does Valerie look?! Yay!

Carnival Dancers

Sarah Love

Oh What A Night! Last Friday Night was our Nia Seattle Fall Jam! We hosted 45 dancers – a packed, SOLD OUT class! It was amazing.

We raised almost $600 for Nia Seattle. Sarah Love, one of the co-teachers and Nia Seattle Community Communicator summarized the event perfectly:

“Dance Underground was filled to the hanging bats. Beads, bangles, glitter and boas were everywhere.

The air – electric with what was next to come.

Dina – emcee extraordinaire rang the bell for festivities to begin.

Jeanna warmed us up with Olabi and Saracen.

Dina increased the heat with Kidda – Natacha Atlas and Lovers of Light – Afro Celt.

Barb in pirate’s eye patch had us moving with kicks and rumbles to Oui and Crazy Benny.

Jill divided the room in half for a face off of Jai Ho and O Saya from Slum Dog Millionaire.

Jena took us down a notch and back up with Give It Up and Itche Koutche – Angelique Kidjo.

Mollia let us cool down the streams of sweat with Angelique, The Cure and the Psychedelic Furs.

I took everyone to the floor with Cirque due Soleil’s Vai Vedrai and ended with the Dead Can Dance’s The Carnival is Over.

A circle, breathing and stepping out to the sublime smiles of a most wonderful and fun evening.

If you were there, you may still feel the energy pulsing. If you weren’t, we missed you and will dance with you next time.

Until then…the Carnival is Over. “
