Caught inbetween snowflakes, Dina and Rachel

Well, we did it!

Confronted with the shortest night of the year
a city coated in white, stranded cars,
and a blowing chill, brave women in all black
  descended

into the warm cave. Only candlelight licked the corners
of the wood floor. And we danced.

We danced for the winter chill. We danced for the year’s end.
We danced for the embrace of friends and we danced for the ones
at home. We danced for all we’ve done and we danced for all we will become.

You could feel us dancing. The music is in all your hearts.

I hope to be in the air tomorrow, trailing my love for all of you
as I venture home for the holidays.

And we will dance again very soon, bringing in the New Year with our feet and our souls and our voices.

Until then, stay safe, find warmth and be loved!

Hello friends,

Since I live in walking distance, I am going to trek up to Dance Underground for our 1pm class.

If any brave souls show up, we will dance in celebration of the Solstice.

Welcome Yule!

Dec 15

This Sunday 1pm class is our last Nia dance of 2008 and it falls on the Winter Solstice!  So, we decided to do a special theme AND give back with a blanket drive to support Partners in Hope

“Black Out” is our theme.  What that means for you- wear all BLACK and bring a candle (you can take it home afterwards).  We’ll be dancing in candlelight!

A special thanks to community member Colleen Hayward who is on the board of Partners in Hope, which comprises Rose of Lima House and Noel House.  These facilities provide services and housing for homeless women in Seattle for over 15 years.  This is a very worthy cause!  Especially when, baby, it’s cold outside!!

See you then with candles on! :)
